The role of the educator is one we can trace back through history. Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Medieval all had their own systems of education. Whether this was in the role of educating the apprentice for a specific trade or a well-rounded, organized system of education; these ancient societies had their methods of passing down knowledge. While these systems may not seem relevant or applicable to today's teachers, aspiring professionals will do well to take an Art History course. We can track the development of education, the role of the educator, the growth of literacy and how it was promoted. This is valuable knowledge! It can be argued that connecting with this information not only allows future educators many different perspectives, it grows their knowledge base in cultural and world development. Throughout history, relics were left behind and we can use these to better understand ourselves and the influences on our own societies today.
